Westchester County is offering 2000 county residents the opportunity to receive a free home energy assessment. An assessment for a three-bedroom home would normally cost $149, but thanks to a grant from the Federal government for this program, 2000 homeowners will receive an assessment free on a first-come, first-served basis.

The home analyst will examine the efficiency of your heating and cooling systems, and determine how well your system is converting fuel to heat or electricity to cooling. The second area to be examined is the distribution of the heated or cooled air; how efficiently it gets delivered to the living areas of your home. The third area is the overall construction of your home and how well the heated or cooled air is being retained by the home.

The good news is that your home analyst will also provide you with an "action plan" for your most pressing concerns. Many of the solutions can be completed by you, while some might need to be done by a trained professional.
